Angies story
Hi I’m Angie 54, from Wrexham and my journey started in 2020 when I found a lump in my breast.
It turned out to be triple negative Breast cancer, it was during covid so I wasn’t allowed to have anyone with me. I received excellent treatment at shooting star. I had lumpectomy then 6 sessions of chemo, the staff on the ward are incredible, nothing is too much trouble. Fast forward to Aug 2021 and I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer as it had fractured my spine so I had to have an operation and chemo every week to reduce the tumours. I was scared and anxious,
I started my chemo in nov 21 and as I’m there every week I make the most of it, I call it my afternoon tea and bottomless brunch , the food is fab , staff pamper me from the minute I get on shooting star with blankets, the best hot chocolate , music on the tv and the best lunch , lovely company from fellow chemo buddies, we have a laugh and giggle and swap stories and encourage each other , I get my best therapy from here.
The staff are more like friends , sorting out every problem I encounter , my oncologist I feel always has my best interests as I always feel safe , nurse Rose has been my Angel , being there whenever I need someone to talk to and deliver my scan results , we now have a secondary breast cancer nurse Kate which is great as she can support me emotionally and sort out my medication rather than going to GP who doesn’t know me and my history
I feel like I’m really taken care of
So as my cancer is incurable and hopefully I’ll be going for a very long time, I actually enjoy my day out on the ward
