Seren Garden
In 2010, to further enhance the care and support to people affected by cancer, the Shooting Star Appeal donated additional funding to create an outdoor space. In partnership with students at Glyndwr University the “Seren Garden” was developed.
The outdoor space, adjacent to the Macmillan Centre, is located in the middle of the Hospital. It has been carefully designed to ensure privacy and to take advantage of its location alongside the River Gwenfro that runs “under” Wrexham Maelor Hospital where a bridge had been built over the river to link the old Maelor to the newer part of the hospital.
The Seren Garden is a tranquil outdoor space for people affected by cancer whilst visiting the Hospital or Macmillan Centre. The garden is maintained by the Rotary Club of Wrexham Erddig.
The glass panels along the pathway invite people to enjoy the garden with the following wording:
Llain werdd yn llawn o harddwch, egin nerth mewn prydferthwch
(A green and peaceful haven, through natures changing beauty)
Here are stillness, sound, sun, shade and the season’s splendour
Those people using the Seren Garden have commented:
“Its so calm and peaceful”;
“What a lovely quiet area away from the hustle and bustle of the main hospital”;
“The gentle flowing of the river and the beautiful flowers and shrubs in the garden”;
“The calm in the storm”.
